Karen is a multi-disciplined artist living and working in rural Ontario. An international award winning lettering artist & type designer, she is now following her varied passions and producing more unconventional pieces of art.
Combining strong design & original techniques with influences from architecture, her rural surroundings and her graphics art background she creates art that is highly individual.
The hardshell gourds Karen uses are grown by her husband on their farm located just outside of Dromore. After drying and cleaning, images and designs are added using the burning technique of pyrography, various carving methods or original resist techniques based on the ancient art of batik.
Her fabric art and wall pieces use original hand dyed, hand painted & silkscreened fabrics that reveal both architecture from a different perspective and the raw beauty of the surrounding countryside.
Karens' Barn is a series of paintings of the original barn located on her farm. Constructed from tamarak this structure dates from the late 1800's
and continues to this day to be an important part of the working farm.
